More about Deer Ticks

TICK HABITAT:

In addition to using a pesticide to prevent ticks from entering your yard there are a few landscape adjustments everyone should make on their property.

-Keep rock walls neat, if your rock wall is falling apart it gives mice and small animals a home to live, these small critters often carry ticks.

-Move recreational areas such as picnic tables, play areas, sheds and swing sets in sunny areas away from the woods.

-Create a safety zone around the perimeter of the yard by clearing small branches, brush, vines and leaf litter away.  Create a woodchip, mulch or gravel barrier where your lawn meets the woods about 3 feet wide to help make a better defined barrier for ticks.  It is also a visible reminder for you and your children that inside the barrier is a tick-safe zone.

-You can contact you local nursery to figure out what shrubbery and flowers deer do not like to eat.
